The Gateshead born-striker will no doubt look back at his time thinking what might have been if not for injuries, but unfortunately the former Anfield man suffered setback after setback and each time he returned a worse footballer.

He does, however, leave Hammers fans with some fond memories, like his astonishing overhead kick against Crystal Palace and a hat-trick against Arsenal.

And as you can see in the post above, West Ham were quick to show their appreciation for the towering striker on Instagram with a simple message of “Thank you and good luck” alongside a picture of him celebrating.
