Manchester City have confirmed that director of football Txiki Begiristain has left after 13 years at the club.

After announcing he would be leaving City in October 2024, with Sporting CP's Hugo Viana to succeed him, Begiristain is moving on from the Premier League side. He joined the club in 2012 but now moves on as the Citizens embark upon a new era.

During Begiristain's 13 years at City, they have won 21 major trophies, including seven Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one Champions League, one Club World Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup. Viana has now replaced the former Spanish footballer, who played a big role in bringing Pep Guardiola to the club.

City have announced that Begiristain will be a special guest for their home fixture at the Etihad for the Manchester derby against Manchester United in the Premier League on September 14. City added that he is 'one of the greatest directors of football the game has ever seen'.
