USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter has admitted that there are concerns about Gio Reyna's fitness amid his limited game time at Borussia Dortmund.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  The midfielder had a troubled start to the season as he had to spend a significant period on the sidelines after sustaining a leg injury on international duty with the USMNT earlier in 2023. Although he returned to action in September, he has failed to earn the trust of Dortmund manager, Edin Terzic, and has been limited to substitute appearances from the bench. Despite Reyna's struggles in Germany, Berhalter has called him up for USMNT's home and away CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal against Trinidad and Tobago but the tactician did reveal that his minutes will be closely monitored.

• WHAT BERHALTER SAID

  Speaking to reporters, Berhalter said: "I don't envision him having minutes restrictions in this game, in the first game. We'll have to see. I think it's more about how long he can maintain his high levels. The fitness consideration because of minutes is something that we'll take into consideration, but there's no planned substitution."

  THE BIGGER PICTURE

  Berhalter will miss the services of talisman Christian Pulisisc after he suffered a hamstring injury with AC Milan along with Tim Weah and Tyler Adams. However, other key figures of the dressing room in Folarin Balogun, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah have been named in the 24-man squad.

• WHAT NEXT FOR THE USMNT?

  The USMNT will host Trinidad and Tobago on November 16 in Austin before they lock horns again on November 20 in Port of Spain. These two matches hold crucial importance as they provide Berhalter and co with the chance to seal their Copa America spot, with the U.S. set to host the tournament next summer.
